Mobile Notary Appointment Checklist

1. Know What Type of Notarization is Needed

As the signer, you must tell the Notary Public what type of notarization you require. The Notary can describe what the primary notarial acts are, but they cannot make recommendations.

Generally, the notarizations come in two categories:

*Acknowledgments - The purpose of an acknowledgment is to declare that you have willingly signed a document.

*Jurats - The purpose of a jurat is for you to swear or affirm that the contents of the documents are true.

If you are unsure of the kind of notarization that you require, contact the document drafter or receiving agency to confirm what notarial act they require before your appointment with the Notary. If further assistance is required, contacting an attorney is a great option.

2. Bring Acceptable Form of Identification

You will need a valid form of ID ready which includes Driver's License or Passport. Please review or download our acceptable form list.

3. Confirm the Document is Complete

Each document must be 100% complete for a Notary to perform a notarization. Review document(s) prior to your appointment to confirm there are no blank spaces because that can make the document more susceptible to fraud.

4. Have all Signers Present for the Notarization

A signer must meet face-to-face with a Notary in order to have their signature notarized. All signers must be present in order for the appointment to be completed.

All signers must be aware and willing to sign. The Notary will check that all signers are mentally aware and alert at the time of notarization, and that you are signing the document voluntarily and not under duress.

5. Payment Information

During your phone/email consultation you will receive your free quote. Please inquire about any additional fees prior to your Notary services.

Acceptable Forms of Identification

  • State-issued Driver's License

  • State-issued Identification Card

  • U.S Military Identification Card

  • Resident Alien Identification Card (green card)

  • U.S Passport

When you get your document notarized, you must provide proof of identification. The notary will review your ID to make sure you are who you claim to be. If the notary has any doubts or you document is not VALID, he or she will not notarize the document.

If you have recently changed your name (marriage, divorce, etc.) be sure that the ID you bring to the notarization matches your name shown on the document.

If there's any discrepancy, the Notary will not be able to proceed with the notarization unless you can provide an alternative form of acceptable identification that matches the document.
